Linden Grove Cohorts

Pastoral mentoring flourishes where iron sharpens iron—in small groups where mentees are devoted to mutual support and transformation.

At Linden Grove we place our mentees into a cohort with other church leaders. The cohort, typically between four and six participants, meets monthly as a group under the guidance of an LGM mentor. We have found that these cohorts provide incredible support and accelerate personal transformation.

A typical cohort session includes:

  • Biblical and practical teaching on a church leadership topic

  • Case studies and breakout discussion

  • Real-life narratives that connect the teaching to actual situations

  • Candid interaction

  • Prayer, encouragement, and support.

Practical instruction full of biblical wisdom on a difficult aspect of church leadership
Carefully-developed questions that generate reflection, insight, and connection
Case studies and breakout discussions
Real-life narratives that connect teaching to actual experience
Discussion marked by mutual transparency and understanding
Prayer, encouragement, and support

Examples of recent cohort topics include:

  • How to recognize and avoid burnout

  • Dealing with critical comments about your husband’s pastoral leadership

  • Five ways you can upgrade your sermon development

  • Organizing yourself for effective prayer

  • How to preach the gospel to your heart and its memories of past disappointments, hurts, and injury

Each mentee in the cohort also has a regular one-on-one session with the mentor. At LGM we call these personal hours. PHs are a strategic time for the mentor to help the mentee with specific issues of leadership, personal life, and soul health.  To learn more about Personal Hours, click here.

Karen Speaks about Women’s Cohorts
  • “Jesus’ church needs well-mentored women. It always has. From the New Testament’s Priscilla, known as Paul’s ‘fellow worker in Christ Jesus,’ older women have taught and trained younger women. And those younger women, as they matured, have taught and trained other younger women, so that they in turn could teach and train even more younger women. The Lord designed this mentorship chain to make for strong churches, strong friendships, strong marriages, strong homes, strong careers, strong communities.

Women make up 50% of the church. Yes, men and women are equally made in the image of God, and they are, therefore, more alike than different. But still, younger women need the wisdom of older women: their experiences, their failures, their successes, their growth in godliness.

No wonder I am committed to mentorship with Linden Grove.”

Both men and women are welcome to participate in LGM Cohorts. If you or someone you know would be interested in learning more, please reach out to us below.
